Agricultural cooperatives Euralis and Maïsadour are discussing a plan for a merger

Euralis and Maïsadour are examining a plan to merge the two cooperatives and create a new cooperative to support farmers and regions in south-west France.

Against a background of far-reaching change, heightened competition, recurrent crises and the crucial need to enhance the value farmers receive for their work and production, the goal underpinning discussions is to provide better support and promotion for regional agricultural
sectors.

By creating a cooperative hub in the south-west benefiting from a new larger size and combined resources, the project , if it were to succeed, would aim to meet a number of key objectives:

• provide member farmers with local support and enhanced services to help develop
sustainable, high added-value agriculture offering attractive remuneration for the plant
and animal sectors combined with the development of renewable energies;
• promote and develop sectors embedded in the regions of the south-west France with
production that meets the needs of consumers and clients:
• pool human, financial and industrial resources to strengthen collective performance and
open up new opportunities to invest in their businesses.

The two groups, with very similar backgrounds and complementary expertise, will form a union as equal partners. The two governing boards will merge to form a single board that will guarantee lasting and balanced representation of the two current cooperatives as well as all production and
every area where the two groups operate today.

The project will only become a reality once it has gone through several stages, including: competition regulators application and approval, project financing, informing and consulting employee representatives and final approval by both cooperatives’ general assemblies.

No associated integration processes or changes in organisation will happen before all these stages are completed, in 2026 at the earliest. In the meantime, the two cooperatives continue to roll out their respective strategic plans and undertake to maintain an open dialogue with all stakeholders and provide them with transparent information as the project progresses.

Our two cooperatives would demonstrate their capacity to work together and boost the performance of farms as well as our downstream industrial and commercial activities,” says Euralis president Christophe Congues. “The situation we are currently facing strengthens our
desire to unite our forces to build the future of agriculture in south-west France. We have a common destiny, and we want to create the cooperative our farmers really need.”

Maïsadour president Daniel Peyraube believes that “Together we could be a stronger voice for our regions and expertise which are complementary in many respects. While we are both facing increasingly concentrated competitors and customers, together we would create new opportunities with higher added value for farmers. And we would be better equipped to attract the young farmers who will contribute to French food sovereignty from our south-west France.”
